TWO Philippine Air Force pilots were injured after a PAF trainer plane crashed yesterday morning at the Fernando Air Base in Lipa City in Batangas.
Air Force spokeswoman Col. Maria Consuelo Castillo said the pilots of the ill-fated SF-260FH Marchetti trainer aircraft suffered “minor” injuries, specifically bruises and scratches.
Castillo said the aircraft was on a “standard training flight” when it encountered problems “at the upwind” or during take off at Runway 21 of the air base at 6:43 a.m.
“Despite the low altitude, the pilots were able to maneuver the aircraft to an open area within the air base’s perimeter causing no harm and damage to nearby communities,” said Castillo.
Castillo said emergency responders were immediately dispatched to extricate the pilots.
“Thankfully, both pilots, after going through the mandatory medical checks, have both been declared safe and are undergoing treatment,” said Castillo.
Castillo said the aircraft was being “recovered and assessed” as of yesterday afternoon.
“Consequently, extensive investigation of the incident has been started to determine its cause,” said Castillo.
“While flight training like this has its inherent risks, the PAF assures the public of its strict adherence to maintenance and operational protocols,” said Castillo.
