PRESIDENT Duterte has approved the promotion of the Armed Forces’ inspector general and spokesman to the higher ranks of lieutenant general and major general, respectively.
Armed Forces chief Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. administered the donning of ranks to the two senior military officials in Camp Aguinaldo on Tuesday.
Maj. General Franco Nemecio Gacal, the AFP’s Inspector General, was promoted to Lt. General while Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, commander of the AFP Education and Training and Doctrine Command and concurrent AFP spokesman, was promoted to the rank of major general.
Gacal, a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1988, was previously the commander of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division in Cagayan de Oro City. He once served as commander of the 402nd Brigade.
Arevalo, of the PMA class 1990, has been serving as AFP spokesman for the past several years. Arevalo also serves as AFP ETDC chief and previously as AFP assistant deputy chief of staff for civil military operations and deputy chief of the AFP Civil Relations Service.
“I am privileged in recognizing the ascension of our honorees in the AFP’s hierarchy,” Santos said. “This is a testament that the AFP is indeed filled with individuals who are committed, and capable of carrying great responsibilities in serving our nation and the people.”
