DAYS before his installation as Manila archbishop, Cardinal Jose Advincula’s name and coat of arms are now in place at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros.

In a social media post yesterday, the cathedral said it has installed a new marker.

“Since the original marker that listed the 32 names of the archbishops of Manila for the past 442 years is now full, a new marker was created to now include the name of Jose F. Cardinal Advincula as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila,” said the Manila Cathedral.

“He is now part of the great history of pastors, who used to hold the title Metropolitan of the Philippines,” it added.

The marker can be seen at the left wall of the Manila Cathedral narthex near the entrance.

Advincula’s coat of arms shows symbols that pertain to his life and ministry as shepherd of the local church.

“The new carving of the coat of arms of Cardinal Jose Advincula was imposed on top of white Indian marble in the cathedra or the Archbishop’s chair,” said the Manila Cathedral.

“The cathedra or the Archbishop’s ‘chair’ is a sign of his teaching office and pastoral authority in the local church,” it added.

The cathedra can be seen at the left side of the altar of the Manila Cathedral.

On June 24, the solemn installation of Advincula is set to be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Manila Cathedral.

Expected to attend are the clergy of the archdioceses of Manila and Capiz, government officials, and representatives of religious groups, among others.
