THE Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas had asked all its allied political parties to submit until September 15 their respective proposed candidates for senator for the 2025 midterm elections before the administration coalition finalizes its line-up.
Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) president and South Cotabato Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr. said the coalition has no official line-up yet despite reports of a supposed full administration Senate slate.
Tamayo said leaders of the allied political parties met last Monday to discuss their plans for 2025, including the composition of the senatorial line up.
“Wala pa pong line up ang administration para sa mga kandidatong senador. Ang nangyari po kagabi ay pinag-submit ang ibat-ibang partido na sumusuporta sa administration ni Presidente Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. ng kanilang mga kandidato hanggang September 15 (The administration has yet to come up with a senatorial line-up. The different parties who are allied with the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. have been asked to submit their candidates until September 15),” he said.
The meeting, held in Malacañang, was attended by the PFP, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), the Nacionalista Party (NP), and the National Unity Party (NUP).
Tamayo said the alliance would announce the administration’s senatorial line-up once all parties have decided on the final composition of the slate.
The filing of candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections is set for October this year.
Meanwhile, former Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño yesterday launched his Senate bid at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani.
Casiño will be the sixth senatorial candidate under the Makabayan coalition’s 2025 slate. The others who have made their proclamations are ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro, Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas, Kilusang Mayo Uno’s Jerome Adonis, former anti-poverty czar Liza Maza, and fisherfolk leader Ronnel Arambulo
Former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson likewise announced his senatorial run in next year’s elections.
In a Facebook post, Singson said he would give another run at the Senate after he was endorsed by former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Sabi ko it’s an honor to be endorsed by [former] President Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte. Laking pasalamat ko dahil hindi siya nakalimot. At inisip ko ‘yun, magpaalam muna ako sa mga pamilya ko… This is my first time to confirm na tatakbo na akong senador with your support (It is an honor to be endorsed by [former] President Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte. I’m very thankful that he didn’t not forget. I really thought about it and asked the permission of my family… This is my first time to confirm that I would run for senator with your support),” he said in his post.
Singson first expressed interest to run in the Senate in 2007.
He joined the Nationalist People’s Coalition in 2021 while serving as Narvacan, Ilocos Sur mayor, but he did not run for any public post in the 2022 national elections.
Duterte has allegedly said that he would back Singson if the latter decides to run for senator in next year’s polls.
