METRO Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. yesterday defended the reopening of the Dolomite beach to the public even after Alert Level 3 had been raised in the National Capital Region.

Abalos, during the Laging Handa public briefing, said the reopening had been scheduled even before the alert level was raised.

He said what is important is that minimum health protocols, such as the observance of social distancing and venue capacity cap, would be followed.

“Under Alert Level 3, we have policies that should be followed such as those limiting the capacity. As long as we follow the capacity, we will have no problem,” he said.

Abalos said since the alert level was raised in Metro Manila, there have been fewer people on the road and even lesser traffic, which means the public is following protocols and observing precautions.

Metro Manila was placed under Alert Level 3 by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) from January 3 to 15 due to rising active COVID-19 cases.
