Last Friday, at the Mall of Asia Arena, a long-awaited and heartwarming reunion unfolded before the eyes of fans. Estranged couple Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion, last seen together in a fast-food commercial five years ago, finally shared the stage with their daughter, Kristina Cassandra Concepcion, during their “Dear Heart” concert.
For many in the audience, most of whom had adored the ex-couple since their on-screen partnership in the movie “Dear Heart” in 1981, this was a dream come true. Songbird Regine Velasquez, an avowed Sharon-Gabby fan, and her husband, Ogie Alcasid, took the stage to interview the ex-couple, providing an intimate perspective on the reunion. Erik Santos, Jeremy Glinoga, and Ogie also shared the stage with Sharon in a memorable medley performance.
Sharon and Gabby narrated their story of love and estrangement through the haunting lyrics of George Canseco, Willy Cruz, Rey Valera, Rene Garcia, Joey Albert, and others.
The emotional moment of the night was when the family of three took to the stage to perform two touching songs. Sharon, her voice filled with emotion, sang “Ikaw” for KC, changing the line to “Ang mahalin kong baby ko’y ikaw….” Gabby, in turn, sang “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” to their only daughter.
Tears welled up as Sharon sincerely apologized to KC, saying, “Sorry, KC, we couldn’t give you that complete family, but you have two families. Your Papa and I never stopped loving you. And you were never the problem.”
Gabby’s charm shone through as he spoke from the heart, saying, “Makita ko lang ok na sila, ok an rin ako. I’m happy.” His gesture of wiping away Sharon’s tears prompted KC to playfully remark, “Grabe para naman akong nasa isang panaginip. Ano kaya mangyayari? Kinikilig ako.”
The most cathartic moment came when KC addressed both her parents, saying, “Yung past, past na ‘yun. What matters is ‘yung ngayon at ang bukas.
“Parehas ko kayong mahal na mahal na mahal na mahal. You both are my dear heart.”
One devoted fan summed it up perfectly, “Sulit ang P30,000 naming bayad.” It was truly worth every penny seeing a moment of closure and healing for all.
Months before the event on October 27, tickets to the “Dear Heart” concert had flown off the shelves, a testament to the enduring love and admiration for the iconic team up of Sharon and Gabby.
On the night of the event, the 20,000-seater Mall of Asia Arena was filled to capacity, with celebrities including lovebirds Julia Montes and Coco Martin, Senator Bong Revilla and wife Representative Lani Mercado, actor John Estrada and actresses Lorna Tolentino Cherry Pie Picache and Angel Aquino joining the crowd.
