999 new cases reported, raising PH total to 38K

THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported 999 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, bringing the country’s total to over 38,000.

Of the new cases, 595 are “fresh cases” or test results that were validated by the DOH-Epidemiology Bureau in the last three days while 404 were “late cases” or results that came out four days ago and were just recently validated by the DOH.

The department also said that 19 more patients had died, raising to 1,270 the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the Philippines, while 205 more patients had recovered, raising to 10,438 the patients who have survived the deadly illness.

Globally, as of July 1, the World Health Organization reported 10,268,839 confirmed cases, including 506,064 deaths.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said 32 more overseas Filipinos have contracted the virus, raising the total to 8,506 in 50 countries, while five more have died for a total of 554 deaths. The number of recoveries stands at 5,131 after 30 new recoveries.

The Middle East still had the most number of Filipino deaths with 289 more and a total of 6,196 while cases in Europe increased from 988 to 1,009 and 94 deaths.

The Americas reported 695 cases and 168 deaths while the Asia and Pacific regions had 606 more cases.

Meanwhile, at the House of Representatives, a female employee assigned at the Internal Audit Department tested positive of COVID-19, the ninth House worker to have acquired the virus.

“We’re sorry to inform you that another employee tested positive for COVID- 19 today,” said House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales, noting that the employee last reported for work on June 24.

Montales assured the public that protocols for handling positive cases and their close contacts are being observed by the House.
