THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday said 94 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates have been repatriated and arrived in the country on Monday.
DFA Undersecretary Brigido Dulay said of the 94 OFWs, 89 came from Lebanon and the rest from the UAE.
“Beirut PE (Philippine Embassy) is bringing home 89 distressed OFWs including seniors, shelter wards and trafficking victims to Manila. In the UAE, Dubai PCG (Philippine Consulate General) is working to repatriate five trafficked OFWs from our shelter to Manila after settling their pending cases, exit visas, immigration penalties air fare. Touchdown at NAIA in 10 hours,” Dulay said late Sunday evening.
He said the DFA also covered the board and lodging, exit visa fees, immigration penalties and airfare of those repatriated using the department’s Assistance to Nationals Fund. — Ashzel Hachero
