DAVAO City had 85 new cases as the Department of Health reported 937 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases yesterday and 58 more deaths that raised the total number of fatalities in the country to 9,321.
The DOH said nine laboratories failed to submit test results on time and these have not been included in the updated figures.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said Isabela reported 54 new cases, Agusan del Sur 49, Pampanga 48, and Misamis Occidental 43, with the total number of infections rising to 479,693.
There were 114 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 448,375. The DOH said this means that 93.5 percent of COVID patients had recovered.
Less the deaths and recoveries, the DOH said there are 21,997 active cases, accounting for 4.6 percent of the COVID cases in the country.
Of the active cases, 81.4 percent are mild cases, 8.5 percent are asymptomatic cases, 6.2 percent are critical cases, 3.3 percent are severe cases, and 0.55 percent are moderate cases.
Meanwhile, food handlers were identified to have caused the transmission of the deadly virus at Philippine Military Academy in Baguio City, the Armed Forces reported.
AFP spokesman Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said 50 personnel, including PMA cadets, were found to have been infected with deadly virus during a recent RT-PCR test administered by the Philippine Coast Guard.
“Food handlers actually brought the virus and breached the COVID-19 bubble inside the academy,” Arevalo said, citing investigation conducted by the PMA and the contact tracing efforts.
Arevalo said the academy had adopted stringent measures to prevent the spread of the virus at the academy, limiting the number of guests during traditional events “to preserve the health security bubble.”
“Unfortunately, we cannot avoid service crew, who are needed in the delivery of services to our cadets while they conduct their education and training,” Arevalo said. — With Victor Reyes
