NINETY Chinese and two Malaysians were arrested by the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection group in Cavite on Friday night for illegal online gambling and violation of quarantine guidelines, it was reported yesterday.

Before the operation, CIDG said it received a complaint about a group of Chinese seen loitering in front of Mariche Apartelle in Barangay Mabolo 1 without upper garments, face masks and not observing physical distancing.

The CIDG said it dispatched a team from its Anti-Organized Crime Unit, in coordination with the provincial police, and found the report to be true.

When the Chinese sensed the arrival of the CIDG men, they ran inside the apartelle, prompting the policemen to give a chase.

The CIDG later confirmed that the Chinese were working with many other Chinese and Malaysians in the operation of an illegal online game.

“Said workers failed to provide pertinent records such as passports and working permits that could prove the legality of their online gaming operation,” the CIDG said.

Seized from the foreigners were 53 laptops with chargers and mouses, 102 cell phones, a passport, a keyboard, and P5.3 million in cash.

The foreigners are temporarily held at the apartelle, pending the filing of charges against them.
