NINE out of 10 Filipino adults feel proud whenever the Philippines does well in international sports competitions, the 2019 third quarter survey of Social Weather Stations (SWS) held from September 27 to 30 showed.
The survey, which involved 1,800 adult respondents nationwide with a margin of error of ±2.3 percent, showed that 96 percent of the Filipinos — composed of 79 percent who are “very proud” and 17 percent who are “somewhat proud” — said they are proud when the Philippines does well in an international competitions while 3 percent — comprised of 2 percent who are not very proud and 1 percent who are not proud at all — do not feel proud.
This is an improvement from the 93 percent who are proud of the achievements of Filipinos in 2008. Seven percent said they are not proud.
The survey was held before the 30th Southeast Asian Games hosted by the country on Nov. 30-Dec. 11.
The SWS said pride in country’s achievements in sports was high across in all areas and across socio-demographic groups.
It was highest among the respondents from Metro Manila (98 percent) followed by those from Luzon (97 percent), Visayas (93 percent) Visayas and Mindanao (93 percent).
SWS also found that more Filipino men (96 percent) are proud very proud of the country’s achievements in international sports than the Filipino women (95 percent).
By age group, pride in the country’s achievements was the highest among those aged between 25 to -34 age bracket (97 percent), followed by those from the 35 and 44, and 45 to 54 age brackets (96 percent each), 55 and above (94 percent) and 18-24 (92 percent).
Pride in the country’s achievements in sports was also highest among those who are high school graduates (97 percent), followed by elementary graduates and college graduates (95 percent each), and those who have an elementary education (90 percent).
