NINE cops involved in the killing of Calbayog City mayor Ronaldo Aquino and three others last year surrendered on Tuesday to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

PNP chief Dionardo Carlos said the nine surrendered to the CIDG’s Special Operations Unit at Camp Crame and are now detained at a custodial facility of the unit.

The nine were led by Lt. Col. Harry Villar Sucayre, Maj. Shyrile Co Tan, Capt. Dino Laurente Goles, and Lt. Julio Salcedo Armeza Jr. The rest were Staff Sergeants Neil Matarum Cebu, Edsel Tan Omega, and Randy Caones Merelos, Patrolman Nino Cuadra Salem, and Corporal Julius Udtujan Garcia.

“The nine accused are now considered Persons Under Police Custody while awaiting further orders from the Court. The PNP commits its 100% cooperation in the prosecution of the case,” said Carlos.

CIDG spokesman Maj. Mon Sawan said: “They surrendered to the Special Operations Unit of the CIDG which handles wanted persons.

“They did not give a statement why they surrendered. Maybe they learned that they have warrants of arrest. It could be a manifestation that that they are going to cooperate (in the trial).”

The nine face murder raps for the killing of Aquino, his driver, his police escort and a bystander in an ambush March last year, plus frustrated murder involving another aide of Aquino.

Calbayog City Judge Cicero Tuazon Lampasa issued warrants for the arrest of the cops last February 14.
