EIGHTY-EIGHT remains of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived home from Saudi Arabia yesterday in what the Department of Labor and Employment said is the 2nd batch of repatriated “fallen heroes.”
The DOLE said the 88 remains arrived on two flights from Saudi Arabia at the NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
Of the 88, 45 died from the deadly coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while the 43 others died from other causes.
A total of 49 came from Riyadh, including 17 COVID-19 deaths and 32 non-COVID-19 deaths while 28 came from Al-Khobar, 17 due to COVID-19, while 11 died from other causes.
All 11 bodies from Jeddah died from COVID-19.
Last July 10, the first batch of deceased OFWs from Saudi Arabia were finally brought home, composed of 49 remains of OFWs, including 20 who died of COVID-19, and 29 from other causes.
A total of 274 OFW bodies have piled up in Saudi Arabia since last February.
