THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) yesterday said 1,436 local government units (LGUs) have passed resolutions denouncing the atrocities of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front and declaring these groups persona non grata.

The rest of the 279 LGUs in the country are in the process of deliberating similar resolutions, said Interior undersecretary and spokesman Jonathan Malaya in a press briefing.

Malaya is also a spokesman for the Barangay Development Program and LGU concerns of the government’s National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

“This means that 84 percent of the LGUs nationwide have formally expressed their denouncement of CTGs (communist terrorist groups) through duly approved and promulgated issuances of their Sanggunian (council),” said Malaya.

Malaya said all the LGUs in six of the 17 regions have passed the resolution against the CPP-NPA-NDF. The six are Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN and Cordillera Administrative Region.

On the other hand, Malaya said 99 percent of the LGUs in Ilocos region have already denounced the groups, while Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON and Northern Mindanao are at 98 percent, 94 percent and 95 percent complete, respectively.

In the National Capital Region, Malaya said nine cities out of the 16 cities and one municipality have also passed resolutions denouncing and declaring the alleged communist terrorist groups persona non grata. These are the cities of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Pasig, Quezon, San Juan and Valenzuela.

“This is the first time in the history of the Republic of the Philippines, since the beginning of the CTG problem 53 years ago, that we have had this unprecedented support from our local government officials,” said Malaya.
