THE PNP caught over 80,000 people for violation of minimum health standards and curfew hours during the two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the National Capital Region and the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Bulacan, or what is collectively called as the NCR Plus.
Figures released by PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Ildebrandi Usana showed that 50,416 individuals were caught for not wearing a face mask and face shield while outside of their homes, and for failure to observe physical distancing while in public places.
Most of those caught violating health from March 29 to April 11 were warned by the police, while there were others who were fined.
Usana said nearly 28,000 of those who did not follow health guidelines were from the NCR.
Usana said 37,275 persons were caught for violation of the uniform curfew hours in the NCR Plus bubble. Of the number, 21,897 were warned; 13,924 were fined; and 1,454 were required to do community service.
The most stubborn residents who still went out of their homes during the curfew hours of 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. were from the NCR, with 30,157 violators; followed by Cavite with 2,913; Rizal and Laguna tied at 2,120; and 990 from Bulacan.
The PNP said that as early as 5 a.m. yesterday when the less strict modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) took effect, 795 individuals were already caught for violation of minimum health standards, and 770 for violation of the curfew hours.
Usana said the PNP will not reduce the number of deployed policemen and the checkpoints that were put up during the two-week ECQ implementation, and said police officers will remain strict in the implementation of quarantine protocols.
Over 1,000 control points were put up by the PNP during the ECQ period to check the entry and exit of people from the NCR Plus borders.
