NEARLY 80 percent of the almost 300,000 crime incidents recorded during the first three quarters of the year have been solved, the PNP said yesterday.
Data from the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detection Management showed a 79.6 percent crime solution efficiency rate, compared to the 76.36 percent mark during the same period last year.
There were 283,549 total crime incidents reported from January to September this year, down by 23 percent or 89,072, from 372,621 reported from January to September last year.
A crime is deemed solved when the perpetrator is identified and arrested and a case has been filed for the prosecution of the suspect.
PNP spokesman Col. Ysmael Yu said the nine-month data on crime incidents indicates a much improved peace and order situation. He expressed confidence the trend would continue during the last quarter.
Yu said the data was culled from police blotters of 17 police regional offices throughout the country “to come up with a comprehensive and accurate picture of the nationwide crime environment.”
Yu said the crimes included 30,775 index crimes or focus crime (murder, homicide, physical injury, theft, robbery, rape, carnapping of cars and carnapping of motorcycles) and 147,976 non-index index crimes (violation of special laws like illegal logging and local ordinances)
He said all focus crimes posted double-digit decreases, with theft and robbery posting the biggest decline at 51.03 percent and 47.52, respectively.
Yu said focus crimes decreased in Luzon by 38.13 percent, the Visayas by 47.58 percent, and Mindanao by 37.49 percent.
