EIGHT overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returned home yesterday from Lebanon where there continued escalation of hostilities between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
The latest batch brings to 450 the total number of repatriated OFWs, and 28 of their dependents,
In a social media post, the DMW said the OFWs returned through the government’s voluntary repatriation program.
The DMW said it expects more OFW to return in the coming weeks as government intensifies efforts to repatriate Filipinos “to further ensure their safety amidst the escalating Israel-Hezbollah conflict.”
The DMW said the returning OFWs are each entitled to immediate financial assistance worth P75,000 from the DMW and another 75,000 from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
Earlier, the Israeli military began its ground invasion of Lebanon as they continue to target the Hezbollah militant group.
Records show that there are over 11,000 OFWs based in Lebanon.
