71K lockdown violators arrested

THE PNP has caught 71,755 persons in the National Capital Region (NCR) for violating strict stay-home and health protocols while the region is under enhanced community quarantine for two weeks from August 6 until 20 to control the spread of the coronavirus, especially the highly transmissible Delta variant.

Data from the PNP said 48,192 were accosted from August 6 to 14 for violation of minimum health public standards (MPHS), specifically wearing of face mask and face shield, and observance of physical distancing. There were 8,888 violators caught on August 14 alone.

On the other hand, 19,465 persons were arrested for violation of the 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew hours, which local government units in Metro Manila are implementig alongside the ECQ. The PNP said there were 2,898 violators who were accosted last August 14.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,098 non-APORs or those not considered as Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APORs) were questioned for going out of their homes, of which 1,178 were caught last August 14.

Under ECQ guidelines, only APORs are allowed to go out of their homes during the lockdown period.
