SOME 700 areas in the country remained under granular lockdown as of Saturday, or 105 higher than the previous day, as COVID-19 continued to surge, according to the PNP.
Data from the PNP headquarters at Camp Crame said 302 of these areas are in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), while 233 are in the Ilocos region.
The National Capital Region (NCR) had 146 areas under granular lockdown, while Mimaropa had 19, the PNP added.
The 700 areas granular lockdown are situated in 325 barangays within 33 cities and municipalities.
These lockdowns are manned by 411 policemen, 59 soldiers, and 1,058 force multipliers or personnel from barangays, cities, and municipalities.
Police said these lockdowns are affecting 966 households or 1,836 individuals.
There were 595 areas under granular lockdown in the country as of last Friday — 242 in CAR, 169 in NCR, 165 in Ilocos region, and 19 in Mimaropa.
The PNP said 4,833 individuals were accosted on Saturday in Metro Manila for violation of minimum public health standards. No one was reported accosted for curfew violation on Saturday.
This brought to 93,049 the number violators accosted by the police during the implementation of Alert Level 3 of quarantine in Metro Manila from January 3 to 22 — 92,889 for violation of minimum public health standards and 160 for curfew violation.
Nationwide, a total of 500,364 violators have been accosted during the same period — 441,913 for MPHS violation, 47,210 for curfew violation, and 11,241 non-authorized persons outside residence.
Of the violators nationwide, 424,659 were merely warned, 41,736 were fined, and 33,969 were brought to police stations for filing of charges.
