PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has approved the creation of additional regional trial court (RTC) branches in Muntinlupa City and Calauag, Quezon to accommodate more cases and hasten the resolution of legal cases in these areas.
The President, on October 9, signed into law Republic Act 1025 and 1026 which created three RTC branches in Muntinlupa and four RTC branches in Calauag, respectively.
It directed the Supreme Court to assign the respective numbers to the new RTC branches, and the Chief Justice and the Secretary of Justice to include in the court’s program the operationalization of the seven new RTC branches.
The Supreme Court was also directed to issue the implementing rule and regulation for the implementation of the two laws.
Funds for the operation of the new branches shall be sourced from the current General Appropriations Act.
RA 1025 and 1026 stemmed from House Bill 6579 and 8247 which were passed on January 2023 and August 2023, respectively.
