IMMIGRATION personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport recently intercepted seven Filipina trafficking victims before they could board their flight for Dubai.

BI Travel and Control Enforcement Unit chief Timotea Barizo said the women were intercepted last September 17 at the immigration departure area of the NAIA Terminal 1 as they were about to board a Philippine Airlines flight to Dubai.

Barizo said three of the women were hired to work as caregivers while the four others were recruited to work as marketing and sales agents for an interior design company.

Barizo said the seven posed as first time overseas workers but the papers they presented to immigration personnel turned out to be fraudulent.

“Verification made on the overseas employment certificates they presented revealed that some of them are not in the records of the POEA while the others appear to have been issued to other persons,” Barizo said in a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.

Barizo added a check of their visas showed they are traveling to Dubai as tourists and not workers.
