SIX persons died and several others were reported injured when a fire razed a pension house in Bacolod City yesterday morning.
A report from the Bacolod City police station said the fire broke out at the Java Pension on Gonzaga St. in Barangay 12 at around 4:40 a.m. The fire, of still unknown origin, was put out by responding firefighters five hours later.
City police investigator Chief Master Sergeant Augustus Velasco said a probe is being held to determine what caused the fire that broke out at the ground floor of the five-story building.
Most of the fatalities — three men, two women and a boy — were found at the second floor.
They were not immediately identified.
Four were reported injured, including an Australian, who were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Velasco said at least 15 people were rescued unharmed. — Victor Reyes
