SIX construction workers died and two others were injured when the concrete wall of an adjacent property collapsed on their barracks in Tagaytay City on Monday night amid intermittent rains over the past several days.
Tagaytay City police chief Col. Normal Rañon said the bodies of five victims were retrieved by search and rescue workers yesterday.
The sixth fatality was plucked from the debris shortly after the incident, which occurred at around 6 p.m. in Barangay Kaybagal Central where the victims were building a house for the past two months.
Police identified the six fatalities as Niño Villasquez, Ronilo Casaljay, Daniel Nesperos, William Ocong, Ramer Gamba, and Jerimy Doña.
Injured were project engineer Marco Paulo Abarrientos and Anthony Villasquez.
Rañon said seven construction workers and Abarrientos were in their barracks when the six-meter concrete wall of an adjacent property collapsed, pinning them down.
Three of the victims, including Abarrientos, were pulled out by emergency responders moments after the tragedy. But one of them died upon arrival at a hospital.
