AT least 556 areas remained under granular lockdown throughout the country as of Wednesday due to the pandemic, down by more than 200 compared to the previous day, the PNP said yesterday.

Data from the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame showed more than half of those areas or 334 were in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The PNP said 138 areas in Cagayan Valley were also under granular lockdown, 49 in the National Capital Region (NCR), 19 in Mimaropa, and 16 in Zamboana Peninsula.

The PNP said 29,731 individuals were accosted on Wednesday for quarantine violations from January 3 to 26 throughout the country, adding 4,295 of the violators were from Metro Manila.

This brought to 614,340 the total number of violators accosted throughout the country from January 3 to 26. There were 110,721 violators accosted in NCR during the same period.

Of the violators, 539,087 were accosted for violation of minimum public health standards, 61,893 for curfew violation, and 13,360 non-authorized persons outside residence.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City has eased restrictions for inbound travelers despite the rising number of COVID infections in the city.

In a television interview, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said travelers no longer need to present a negative RT-PCR or antigen test if they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Leonardia said partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travelers are only required to present a negative antigen test if they want to enter the city.

The city’s decision superseded an earlier order that travelers need to present a negative RT-PCR test rest, regardless of their vaccination status, prior to entry. The city is currently under Alert Level 3.
