ONLY 54 of the 71 remains of the third batch of overseas Filipino workers from Saudi Arabia arrived yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The Department of Labor and Employment said 17 bodies of deceased OFWs were not flown back to the country on board a chartered Philippine Airlines flight due to incomplete requirements.
Of the 54 newly-arrived dead OFWs, 39 died from COVID-19 while 15 others died from other causes. A total of 24 came from Riyadh, including 11 COVID-19 deaths, and 13 non-COVID-19 deaths.
Another 20 came from Al-Khobar, composed of 18 COVID-19 deaths, and 2 non-COVID-19 deaths. The final 10 bodies were from Jeddah, all of which died from COVID-19.
Last July 10, the first batch arrived home composed of 49 remains, 19 of them having died due to COVID-19 and 30 from other causes.
The second batch, composed of 88 bodies, was flown in on July 19, including 45 COVID-19 deaths and 43 dying from other causes.
