FIVE suspected drug peddlers were arrested and over six kilos of shabu, worth nearly P41 million, were seized in two police operations in Bohol on Monday afternoon, police reported on Tuesday.
A report from the Central Visayas Regional Police Office identified one of the suspects as Jaime Dajao, 44, a resident of Purok 2 in Barangay Tanghaligi in Talibon town, Bohol.
Dajao was nabbed at around 3:30 p.m. after selling four kilos of shabu, valued at P27.2 million, to a poseur buyer. Police described Dajao as a “high-value individual” in the campaign against illegal drugs.
Follow-up operation led to the arrest of four more suspects in a separate buy-bust operation in Sitio Antipolo in Barangay Dampas in Tagbilaran City, also in Bohol, at around 5:45 p.m.
The four — Lelit Dajao Sinugbojan, 44; Chellomae Pescura Curayag, 33; Junalyn Abelgas Matura, 32; and Humprey Millana Cenabre, 34 — yielded 2 kilos and 15 grams of shabu worth P13.7 million.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency played a role in the arrest of the five suspects, who are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive. Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa said the PNP’s campaign against illegal drugs remains active even while the PNP is engaged in efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Even with the ongoing health crisis, police anti-illegal drugs operations will continue without let-up and will be unrelenting as ever,” Gamboa said.
FAKE COP NABBED
Operatives of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group arrested a fake policeman and his 16-year-old neighbor who yielded suspected shabu in Cebu on Sunday night.
IMEG chief Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee identified the fake cop as Ruel Abella, 33, a resident of Barangay Canlumampao in Toledo City.
Before the operation, Lee said the IMEG received a report from the PNP’s 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company about Abella introducing himself as an IMEG-Visayas Field Unit operative during a recent Oplan Katok, an anti-illegal drugs effort of the PNP.
“We got a complaint that the suspect questioned the legality of the local police’s conduct of Oplan Katok and bravely introduced himself as an IMEG Visayas Field Unit member and even showed his identification card,” said Lee.
Upon confirmation that Abella is not a cop, Lee said they coordinated with Central Visayas Regional Police chief Brig. Gen Albert Ignatius Ferro for the conduct of a joint operation to arrest the suspect.
Abella was nabbed at around 11:50 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Lutopan also in Toledo City, said Lee.
Seized from Abell were a caliber .45 pistol with a magazine and ammunition and seven rounds of ammunition, a hand grenade, and a Honda Mio scooter.
Abella was with a 16-year-old boy, his neighbor, at that time of this arrest. The boy was accosted by the policemen after he tried to flee while Abella was being arrested.
Recovered from the boy were two heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.
