5 inmates bolt Negros Oriental jail

FIVE inmates, three of them facing rape charges, escaped from their detention cell in Manjuyod town in Negros Oriental yesterday.

Police have launched operations to re-arrest the escapees, who were identified as Janly Callao, 39; Julan Paculanang, 30; Lito Pedro, 49;Joseph Casido, 24; and Ronnie Flores, 25; all residents of Negros Oriental.

Callao, Paculanang and Pedro are facing rape charges before a local court while Casido and Flores are charged with murder and illegal possession of firearms, respectively.

Senior Jail Officer 1 Christopher Sarsuelo, of the Manjuyod District Jail, discovered the wall of the inmates’ cell broken at around 5:30 a.m. yesterday.

Jail officials promptly conducted a headcount of the inmates and found out the five inmates missing.
