5.6 quake jolts Occidental Mindoro

A MAGNITUDE 5.6 earthquake rocked Occidental Mindoro early morning yesterday.

But the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said it does not expect any damage from the quake, which is tectonic in origin.

The agency said the tremor occcurred at around 2:16 a.m., with the epicenter located some 31 km southeast east of Looc town in Occidental Mindoro. It had a depth of 121 km.

The quake was felt at Intensity IV in Looc, Lubang, Mamburao, Paluan, and Sablayan, all in Occidental Mindori and in Tagaytay City in Cavite.

Makati, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Malabon , Muntinlupa and Pasig felt the tremor at Intensity III.

Philvolcs said it is expecting aftershocks.

In a radio interview, Looc town Vice Mayor Marlon Dela Torre said the town did not suffer any damage.

“Looc town is safe and the residents are in good situation. By God’s mercy, the town has no problem,” Dela Torre said.
