5.5 quake rocks Davao del Sur

A MAGNITUDE 5.5 earthquake rocked Davao del Sur yesterday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said the quake occurred at around 4:23 p.m., with the epicenter located some 12 kilometers southwest of Magsaysay town in Davao del Sur.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 24 kms, Phivolcs added.

The quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Kidapawan City in Cotabato; Davao City in Davao del Sur; Tupi and Polomolok towns in South Cotabato; Malungon town in Sarangani.

Phivolcs said intensity 4 was felt in Sta. Cruz, Bansalan and Matanao towns and Digos City in Davao del Sur.

An instrumental intensity 5 was recorded in Kidapawan City in Cotabato and Tupi town South Cotabato and while an instrumental intensity 4 was noted in Davao City in Davao Del Sur; Alabel town in Sarangani; Koronadal City and General Santos City in South Cotabato; and Columbio town in Sultan Kudarat.
