A MAGNITUDE 5.5 earthquake occurred off Batanes yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
The quake occurred at around 6:32 a.m. with the epicenter located some 49 km southwest of Sabtang town. It was of tectonic origin and had a depth of 14 km.
The agency said aftershocks are expected but damage to structures are not anticipated. — Victor Reyes
