5.2 quake rocks Occidental Mindoro

A MAGNITUDE 5.2 quake struck Occidental Mindoro yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

In an advisory, Phivolcs said it is not expecting damage from the quake, which occurred offshore at around 12:23 a.m.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake was located some 157 kilometers of Lubang town in Occidental Mindoro.

The agency said the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 33 kilometers.

The shaking was felt at Intensity in Looc and Lubang towns in Occidental Mindoro and Intensity II in San Antonio town in Zambales and Quezon City.

An instrumental Intensity I of shaking was reported in Tagaytay City in Cavite; Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro; and San Antonio town in Zambales.

Phivolcs said it is expecting aftershocks from the quake.
