In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the new cases were the lowest since March 17, when 4,387 new cases were reported. But it tempered expectations that the fight against the deadly virus has gained a foothold by admitting the latest figures are incomplete.

Overall, the total number of infections in the country rose to 1,113,547 while the death toll climbed to 18,620, just 380 short of 19,000, for a case fatality rate of 1.67.
