FOR out of 10 Filipinos are optimistic their lives will improve in the next 12 months while an almost similar number said their lives will remain the same, the December 12 to 16 fourth quarter survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.
The survey, which involved 1,440 adults with had a sampling error of margin of ±2.6 percent, found that 45 percent (up from 33 percent) are optimistic or expect the quality of their lives to improve while 42 percent said there will be no change. Only three percent (down from seven percent) said their lives will worsen.
This resulted in a net personal optimism score (percent of optimists minus percent of pessimist) of an “excellent” +42 which is 16 points higher than the “high” +26 recorded in September 2021. SWS said this is the highest net personal optimism score since the coronavirus disease pandemic in 2020 and the pre-pandemic “excellent” +44 in December 2019.
SWS classifies a net optimism score of +40 and up as “excellent,” between +30 to +39 as “very high,” between +20 to +29 as “high,” and between +10 to +19 as “fair.”
