FORTY-TWO New People’s Army rebels (NPA) recently surrendered with firearms, explosives, and other war materiel in Sarangani and Batangas, military and police officials reported.
Twenty-eight of the rebels gave up to officials of the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion in Purok Caballero, Barangay Tambili, Kiamba town in Sarangani last Thursday.
The Army’s 6th Infantry Division, based in Maguindanao, said the 28 were members of the NPA’s Squad Primera, Militia ng Bayan and Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad.
They turned over to the military five Garand rifles, 30 rounds of cal. 30 ammunition, three Garand clip, two 40 mm high explosives, an improvised explosive device, and a 70-meter electrical wire.
6th ID commander Maj. Gen. Roy Galido said he was glad the 28 rebels surrendered. He said the rebels will be enrolled with the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
