FOUR of 10 Filipinos or 40 percent said the quality of their life got worse in the last 12 months while two of 10 Filipinos or 24 percent said it got better, the 2021 fourth quarter survey of the Social Weather Stations held from December 12 to 16 showed.
The survey, which involved 1,440 adults nationwide with a margin of error of ±2.6 percent, showed an improvement for both numbers of losers or those who said their quality of life worsened (40 percent in December 2021 from 57 percent in September 2021) and gainers or those who said the quality of their life improved (24 percent from 13 percent).
This resulted in a 28-point jump in the Net Gainers’ score of a “mediocre” -15 (percent of gainers minus percent of losers) in December 2021 from an “extremely low” -44 in September 2021.
SWS classifies the Net Gainers scores as “Excellent” if it is +20 and above; “Very High” if between +10 and +19; “High” if between +1 and +9; “Fair” if between —9 and zero; “Mediocre” if between —19 and —10; “Low” if between —29 and —20; “Very Low” if between —39 and —30; “Extremely Low” if between —49 to —40; and “Catastrophic” if—50 and below.
The polling firm said the 28-point rise in the national net gainers score from September 2021 and December 2021 was due to 15 to 40-point improvements in all areas, especially in Metro Manila and Mindanao.
It improved the most in the National Capital Region (NCR), or by 40 points, with a -11 in December from -51 in September followed by the improvement in Mindanao with -15 (from -47), Luzon with -11 (from -41) and Visayas with -31 (from -46).
