FOUR robbers, a policeman and a civilian were killed while two other cops and two more civilians were injured after a robbery in M’lang town in Cotabato last Wednesday.
Reports reaching the PNP Command Center identified the slain policeman as Staff Sergeant Rudy Verona Amihan Jr., 51, assigned with the M’lang police station.
The names of the slain suspects were not immediately available.
The civilian fatality was identified as Jack Gumilao, 53, a customer at a bakery-restaurant in Barangay Sangat which the suspects robbed.
Police said Amihan was shot in the chest while exchanging fire with two of the fleeing suspects. The incident also led to the death of Gumilao.
After the incident, policemen conducted dragnet operations to catch the fleeing robbers, leading to two gunbattles.
The encounters resulted in the death of the four suspects and the wounding of Corporal Noli Labesores, Patrolman Herson Neyra and civilians Tweeny Daza and Jose Patlubay.
The injured policemen and civilians were brought to the Kidapawan Medical Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.
