4 NPA rebels captured in Negros Occidental

FOUR New People’s Army rebels were captured while two others surrendered in separate incidents in Negros Occidental and Iloilo, the military reported yesterday.

Captured were Francisco Verde Jr., 38; Jeobel Pacheco, 41; Geneboy Verde, 32; and Ronald Pacheco, 22, all members of the NPA’s Militia ng Bayan, said Maj. Cenon Pancito III, spokesman of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division based in Capiz.

Pancito said the four were collared by troops from the Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Carabalan in Himamaylan City on Thursday after an encounter.

Pancito said the four yielded various war materiel, including a cal 22 rifle, two revolvers, a home-made shotgun, and 40 mm grenade launcher ammunition.

The soldiers conducted security operation against the insurgents after receiving reports about rebel extortion in the area.

Pancito said a soldier sustained a slight injury in below the left armpit during the five-minute clash.

In Iloilo, two female rebels identified only as JL and Alexa surrendered to officials of the Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion on Saturday in Calinog town.
