FOUR New People’s Army rebels were captured while three firearms and 15 rifle grenades were recovered by Army troopers in Misamis Oriental, the military said yesterday.
1Lt. Jefferson Mariano, civil military operations officer of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion, said two communists rebels who earlier surrendered, identified only as alias Juno and Jesa, provided information on the whereabouts of their comrades.
Juno and Yesa surrendered to the Army on June 14, a week after they figured in an encounter with soldiers in Barangay Mimbuli in Salay town in Misamis Oriental that left one NPA rebel dead.
Three days after their surrender, Mariano said, the two rebels disclosed the location of their comrades and an ammunition storage site of the NPA.
Soldiers, accompanied by policemen, proceeded to the site in Barangay Banglay, in Lagonglong town in Misamis Oriental and captured the four rebels, who were identified as Marlon Acosta alias Jonathan, Marnie Berito alias Edward, Nelson Berito alias Lorence, and Jeffrey Macabecha alias Jelo.
