A TOTAL of 222 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been repatriated from Israel since war broke out last month between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas militants, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said yesterday.
The latest batch composed of 39 workers — 29 caregivers and 10 hotel workers — arrived yesterday.
There are about 30,000 OFWs in Israel, with a large majority employed as caregivers.
Their repatriation comes on the heels of the statement of DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac that a large majority of OFWs in Israel have opted to stay there despite continued threats to Israel which has been under attack from the Hezbollah militant group in its northern region and the Hamas in the southern side.
