THE National Housing Authority is doubling efforts to complete 22,869 housing units in the Western Visayas region and distribute these during the remainder of President Duterte’s term.
The NHA said the remaining housing units intended for victims of typhoon “Yolanda,” which hit the country in November 2013, are in various stages of construction
A total of 89,491 houses of the targeted 123,535 units have been turned over to beneficiaries.
Cabinet Secretary and Task Force Yolanda chief Karlo Nograles, on December 4, turned over 3,615 houses in Ajuy in Iloilo.
The 19th virtual turnover of housing units in Iloilo included 1,000 units in Malayuan People’s Village Site 1; 1, 500 units, Malayuan People’s Village Site 2; 600 units, Adcadarao People’s Village; 940 units, Pili People’s Village Site 1; and 575 units in Pili People’s Village Site 2.
Nograles said the housing project has been “facing all sorts of construction challenges in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic,” but the NHA team under general manager Marcelino Jun Escalada, regional manager Antonio del Rosario, and district manager Fe Jamoyot provided the right direction that resulted in the completion of the latest batch of housing units and its distribution to the beneficiaries.
“Despite the pandemic, we will finish all pending Yolanda-related constructions. That’s the clear directive of the President. The Duterte administration acts and provides concrete solutions to the problems facing the people of Region 6. We will continue our work until all the Yolanda housing commitments are concluded,” Nograles said.
Yolanda hit the country on Nov. 8, 2013 submerging numerous towns. It left ay least 6,000 people dead. Hardest hit were Tacloban City and Leyte province.
