THIRTY-SIX six South Koreans, Chinese and Indonesians were nabbed by immigration agents in a raid on an illegal online gaming company in Pasay City late Monday afternoon.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the operation was carried out after the agency’s intelligence division received reports of foreigners working without appropriate permits and visas at the Double Dragon Plaza Tower 3 in Pasay city.
“We coordinated with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. and verified that this company is unlicensed and has no authority to operate,” Morente said.
Morente did not identify the company but an immigration official who requested anonymity said it was the Taishan Global Solution Inc. located at the 9th floor of the building.
BI Intelligence division chief Fortunato Manahan said the company is engaged in illegal live studio gaming, with the operators mostly South Koreans. Manahan said those apprehended are also engaged in illegal online gaming operations.
Of those arrested, 32 are South Koreans, 2 are Chinese and 2 are Indonesians.
“We initially rounded up 40 individuals, but found four of them sufficiently documented, being permanent residents in the country. However, the other 36 were unable to present their passports and visas, and were caught in the act of working illegally,” Manahan said.
The 36 are detained at the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig.
