THIRTY-FIVE overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will be initially deployed to the newly opened Kuwaiti market, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

In a statement late Monday, the DMW reported that an initial batch of 35 OFWs is up for deployment to Kuwait, which reopened its market for OFWs last June after being closed for over a year.

“The 35 OFWs are Filipino domestic workers with prior experience working overseas and deployed through Philippine and Kuwait recruitment agencies with good track records,” said the DMW.

It said 11 of the 35 were sent off last Friday by no less than DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac. The other 24 OFWs are set to depart later in the week.

In preparation for their deployment, the department said the 35 OFWs were made to attend pre-departure briefings.

“We assured them of better protection and enhanced monitoring of their conditions on-site,” it said.

“They were also reminded of their rights and responsibilities before deployment to their respective foreign employers,” added DMW.

The Kuwaiti government indefinitely suspended its visa issuance to Filipino workers in early May 2023, effectively stopping OFW deployment there.

Last June, the DMW announced the reopening of the Kuwait market to OFWs, specifically for professional, skilled, and semi-skilled Filipino workers as well as domestic workers with prior experience working overseas.
