MORE than 3,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported yesterday by the Department of Health, majority of them from the National Capital Region, and 38 more deaths.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said of the 3,446 new cases, 1,900 came from the NCR while Laguna had 163, Cavite 161, Leyte 155, and Pampanga 116.
Overall, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country rose to 220,819 while the number of deaths ballooned to 3,558.
Majority of the new deaths were recorded in NCR with 19. Other deaths were reported from Calabarzon (9), Central Visayas (4), Central Luzon (2), Western Visayas (2), Ilocos Region (1), and Zamboanga Peninsula (1).
The DOH said there were 165 new recoveries, meaning the number of survivors has risen to 157,562.
Globally, as of August 30, there were 24,854,140 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 838,924 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
The Department of Foreign Affairs reported one more confirmed COVID-19 case among overseas Filipinos yesterday, bringing the number to 10, 070.
There were three recoveries, bringing the number to 6, 127.
Since August 28, no new fatality has been added to the 755 who have succumbed to the virus.
The Middle East and African regions continued to have the highest reported cases and deaths among overseas Filipinos with 6,968 and 474, respectively, followed by Europe with 1,165 cases and 95 deaths, and the Asia Pacific region with 1,142 cases and eight deaths.
The Americas has a lower number of cases with 795 but in terms of deaths came second behind the Middle East and Africa with 178.
The Antipolo government said that nearly 70 of its employees have tested positive for the dreaded virus. Mayor Andeng Ynares said more than half have recovered while the rest are still in quarantine facilities.
As of August 30, there were 1,658 confirmed cases in the city, 337 of them active, 778 suspected cases; 66 deaths, and 1,255 have recovered. — With Ashzel Hachero and Christian Oineza
