3,375 new cases, 53 more deaths

FIFTY-THREE more deaths were reported by the Department of Health yesterday and 3,375 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, raising the total in the country to 276,289, as the fight to flatten the curve apparently has ran smack into a hard wall.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said mjority of the new deaths were recorded in NCR with 25. Other deaths were mostly reported from CALABARZON (12), Western Visayas (4), Northern Mindanao (4), and Zamboanga Peninsula (3).

In all, the number of fatalities from the deadly virus has risen to 4,785.

Of the new cases, majority also came from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 963. Also reporting high number of cases were Bulacan (448), Cavite (274), Negros Occidental (153), and Batangas (119).

The DOH said there were 317 new recoveries, meaning the number of survivors has reached a total of 208,096.

Globally, as of September 16, there were 29,444,198 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 931,321 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.

Four more overseas Filipinos have succumbed to the deadly virus while 21 more were infected, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

The number of overseas Filipinos who have died due to the virus now stands at 777 while there are now 10,360 confirmed cases in 77 countries.

Majority of the deaths and cases occurred in the Middle East and African regions with 496 and 7,036, respectively. The four new deaths also occurred in the Middle East. — With Ashzel Hachero
