THIRTY-TWO persons from eight regions have been arrested by the police for spreading false information about the deadly coronavirus disease (COVID-19), PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said on Monday.

He said the 32, who were arrested from March 9 to April 5, are from Metro Manila, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Caraga regions.

Another, who spread false information in the Zamboanga Peninsula, remains at large.

The 32 are facing charges under the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

Banac said the PNP will be “relentless in taking countermeasures on misinformation and spread of fake reports by conducting cyber patrol operations on social media and other online platforms.”

“The public is urged to cooperate in taking greater steps to topple the COVID-19 pandemic, including to refrain from sharing and posting false reports that may cause panic and confusion,” said Banac.
