A MAGNITUDE 4.9 earthquake rocked Surigao del Sur yesterday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The quake, initially reported by Phivolcs as magnitude 5.3, occurred at 2:22 p.m. Its epicenter was some km southeast of Marihatag town. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 27 kms.
The shaking was felt at Intensity IV in Marihatag and in Hinatuan town, also in Surigao del Sur. The cities of Bislig and Tandag, also in Surigao del Norte, felt the tremor at Intensity III.
Phivolcs said it was not expecting damage or aftershocks.
Meanwhile, magnitude 4.1 quakes also rocked Lingig town in Surigao del Sur and Davao Occidental.
The Surigao del Sur quake occurred at 2:46 a.m. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 14 km. The epicenter was some 112 km northeast of Lingig.
The Davao Occidental quake occurred at 2:23 a.m. Its epicenter was some 206 km southeast of Sarangani Island in Sarangani town.
It was also tectonic in origin and had a depth of 136 kms.
No shaking intensities were reported from the two quakes.
Damage and aftershocks were not also expected, Phivolcs said.
