ILOCOS Norte and two other provinces have recorded higher positivity rates for the coronavirus disease (COVID019), the independent OCTA Research reported yesterday, just days after President Marcos Jr. lifted the national State of Public Health Emergency due to the pandemic.

OCTA fellow Guido David said Ilocos Norte registered a “high” positivity rate of 21.4 percent, as of July 22, from its previous “moderate” rate of 17 percent, as of July 15.

The provinces of Laguna also showed climbing rates of 5.5 percent (from 3.7 percent), and Oriental Mindoro to 7.5 percent (from 4.8 percent).

The OCTA report also showed that the positivity rates increased in Cagayan (12 percent from 8.7 percent), Camarines Sur (19.4 percent from 17.6 percent), and Quezon (3.7 percent from 3 percent).

On the other hand, the positivity rates in Metro Manila as well as in 13 provinces continued to decline.

David said the National Capital Region’s (NCR) positivity rate stayed “low” at 3.3 percent after dropping from 4 percent.

Also with declining positivity rates are Batangas (5.1 percent to 3.5 percent), Bulacan (4.4 percent to 3.8 percent), Cavite (6.8 percent to 3.2 percent), and La Union (9.3 percent to 3.5 percent).

Meanwhile, the following stayed at moderate level: Bataan (16.2 percent to 12.6 percent), Benguet (11.8 percent to 11.6 percent), Isabela (16.4 percent to 11.2 percent), Palawan (16.1 percent to 8.4 percent), Pampanga (6.9 percent to 6 percent), Pangasinan (10.9 percent to 8.7 percent), Rizal (6.5 percent to 5.2 percent), Tarlac (11.7 percent to 10 percent), and Zambales (8.2 percent to 5.8 percent).

Positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive for the coronavirus out of the overall number of those who have been tested.
