THREE New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the military in Bukidnon last Tuesday, leading to the seizure of 12 mostly high-powered firearms.
The Army’s 4th Infantry Division said the three surrendered due to exhaustion, hunger and relentless military operations against the rebel group.
The three — Jimboy Tingkayan, alias Jovan; Michael Donggo, alias Mighty and Rexan; and Mansalodong Lan-awan, alias Manglomat-og — are members of three NPA units under the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee.
They surrendered to the Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion, under Lt. Col. Anthony Bacus, in Impasug-ong town.
Donggo surrendered three firearms — a Carbine rifle, a KG9 sub-machinegun, and a cal. 38 revolver.
Tingkayan led soldiers to areas in Impasug-ong and in Malaybalay City where nine firearms, anti-personnel mines, and other war materiel were retrieved.
Retrieved were four AK47 rifles, an M16 rifle, an M14 rifle, two M203 grenade launchers, and a Carbine rifle.
The military said the three rebels surrendered due to “exhaustion, hunger, and demoralization brought about by the relentless military operations and lack of support from the civilian populace.”
Brig. Gen. Michele Anayron Jr., 403rd Brigade commander,
commended the troops and welcomed the surrender of the insurgents.
“However, we will not stop until we totally defeat the CTG (communist terrorist group),” said Anayron.
