THREE New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, including a 62-year-old squad leader, were killed in separate clashes with government troops in Negros Occidental and Quezon, the military reported.
The slain NPA leader was identified as Celso Tribunalo, 62, alias Larry, Jimlo, and Greg, the leader of the Squad 2, Platoon 2 of the NPA’s Sentro de Grabidad operating in Negros Oriental.
Troops from the Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion were conducting combat operations at around 6:10 a.m. Tuesday in Sitio Bajay, Barangay Caliling in Cauayan town in Negros Occidental when they clashed with about 10 rebels.
The rebels fled after a 15-minute firefight, leaving behind the body of Tribunalo, an M4 rifle, magazines, ammunition, other war materiel, and personal belongings of the rebels.
