3 kids die in QC fire; 27 houses razed

THREE children died in a fire that razed some 27 houses in Quezon City last Wednesday night.

Fire officials did not name the fatalities but said two of them were siblings aged five and seven. The third fatality was their cousin aged 11.

The fire broke out at around 11:57 p.m. in a bedroom on the second floor of a three-storey house in Barangay Obrero. Investigators are still determining what caused the fire.

The children were trapped in the third floor of the house, fire investigators said.

Their grandmother, who was sleeping with the children on the third floor, tried to save the victims but failed. She was hurt and given medical attention.

The fire spread to 26 other houses, displacing a total of 81 families.

The blaze was put out at around 3:12 a.m. Thursday by some 12 firetrucks that responded to the scene.

Probers placed the cost of damage to property at P135,000.

A four-hour fire broke out in a warehouse owned by Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. on JP Rizal St. in Barangay Nangka early yesterday.

The Marikina Public Information Office said the fire broke out at 2:51 a.m. and was put out by responding firefighters at 6:54 a.m.
